Aqaba Ports - Information & Operations
Aqaba Container Terminal
In 2006, a 25-year build-operate-transfer agreement was signed between Aqaba Development Company (ADC) and APM Terminals, in which APM Terminals has a 50% +1 share. APM Terminals brings extensive international experience as well as commercial and operational best practice to Jordan.
Aqaba Container Terminal is using Navis N4 which is a very sophisticated and modern technology to increase capacity and efficiency, optimize operations, and improve the port productivity and to meet the customers of ACT needs.
A ‘single window’ system is something very much like to see from the authorities in Jordan. This allows shippers to submit regulatory documents like customs declarations, import/export permit applications, and other supporting documents such as certificates of origin and trading invoices at a single location and to a single entity.
Whatever the political situation in neighboring countries, Aqaba and Jordan will be pivotal to local trade. The investments made by ACT, the improvements and best practices introduced, are all justified by the existing volumes of traffic. However,” ACT are here for the long term, as the business grows, our customers and supply chain partners know we will be ready to support them.”
Port Overview
Geographical Location
ACT is situated on the northern shores of the Gulf of Aqaba, in the southern end of Jordan. The terminal currently accommodates vessels up to 300+ meters long and start from 14.5 meters of draft.
An extensive terminal expansion project, had accomplished at the end of 2013, will nearly double berth length to 1000m and increased capacity to 1.2 million TEUs.

Weather
Winds are from north to south (from land to sea), which tends to keep the water in the bay calm. During winter, in moderately inclement weather, ships may anchor closer-in. Occasionally, strong southern storms and gale-force 6/7 south-westerly winds can develop within two hours, accompanied by a high swell. In such cases, small vessels may have to leave their berths to head to sea. Vessels at anchorage may have to weigh anchor and remain at sea until the sea moderates. However, this condition only happens two to four times a year and may last one to two days a time.
Temperature
Aqaba is hot during the summer and warm in the winter, with a dry refreshing northerly breeze. Average rainfall is only 60 mm annually and visibility is generally good.
Equipment
In conjunction with ACT Port Facilities, our highest standard equipments are what keep the efficiency 24/7 operational and fully consistent (in accord).
